Welcome Zaena, our new Programs Manager

Sep 11, 2023 | Embark News, Team

Hello everyone! My name is Zaena (she/they), and I am so excited to be part of the Embark Sustainability Community as the new Programs Manager!

I’m a recent SFU alumnus (School of Philosophy and International Studies!), so you may have seen me around.

I got my start in community building while working for the Global Connections Program, at International Services for Students at SFU. Post-covid, I realized the need for human connection, especially as a process for making meaning (what are we without each other?) and catalyst for creating change.
I’m also quite passionate about our recent communications technology revolution, which is why I founded ReclaimTechSFU in my final year.
Throughout my degree, I was fortunate enough to learn more about Climate Equity and Food justice issues in an international context. Coming to Embark Sustainability, I’m curious on the interaction between our global and our local context – there’s so much potential within our local communities, so I’m excited to dive into that!

When I’m not working, you can find me mulling over video essay ideas I’ll never write, and taking walks around my city, which resides on unceded traditional territory of the Kwikwetlem First Nation, which lies within the shared territories of the Tsleil-Waututh, Katzie, Musqueam, Qayqayt, Squamish, and Sto’:lo Nations – Colonially known as Coquitlam.
