Welcome Alyna, our new Food Justice Coordinator

Oct 3, 2023 | Embark News, Team

Hello there, my name is Alyna De Guzman (she/her). I am so happy and grateful to be the new Food Justice Coordinator for Embark Sustainability.

I am currently a Resource and Environmental Management student with a focus on Planning. Through my education here, I’ve developed a keen interest in studying food systems. I love learning about regenerative ways of growing food, developing nuanced understandings to what sustainable food is, and studying the barriers that inhibit people’s access.

I recall attending my first community kitchen night at Embark Sustainability during my first year in February 2020, just before school shifted online. It was the loveliest night of cooking with new people and sharing good food and conversations. As a Food Justice Coordinator, I hope to help foster more spaces of community and learning like these for fellow students, and together, strengthen and expand our understandings of food sovereignty, food security, and food justice. I hope I get the chance to meet and see you in our upcoming community kitchens and events.

Outside of the Embark Studio, you will find me crocheting hats and searching the library for a new book to read.
