Ryan Jim

Hello, I’m Ryan. I’m currently a third-year Beedie School of Business student concentrating in Management Information Systems and Operations. I am very thrilled to have this opportunity to run as a candidate for Governance Officer at Embark.

I would like to start with two key points: sustainability and integration. I firmly believe that sustainability is important to everyday life. As individuals, we must do our part to integrate sustainability practices wherever we affiliate ourselves as well as encourage collaborative efforts. Embark continually strives towards bringing unique individuals together to be leaders of sustainability in our community. As Governance Officer, I want to be an initiator of sustainability for the SFU community.

So why vote for me? When I started my job over two years ago, the company was fairly new. I acquired a comprehensive understanding of the system in order to develop a guideline for checking data integrity as a part of a process which involved quality assurance analysis. My experiences have allowed me to fully immerse myself into analyst roles, assessing problems from multiple perspectives to find the solution that best suits the particular need. Additionally, as a team player, I value collaboration with others to give outlook on ideas and expand them further. Therefore, I would like to offer my skills to Embark SFU to increase our impact on the SFU community by reviewing and implementing policies that solidify and refresh the organization.
Let’s continue to strive for a sustainable future, starting with the SFU community!

Environmental sustainability is one of my core values that has guided me into the field of Environmental Science at Simon Fraser University. From my years of leadership experience and environmental knowledge, I understand that the triple bottom line approach is essential to any organization’s operations. Therefore, I hope to utilize my skills and guide Embark towards a strong path as the Governance Officer. Furthermore, I wish to gain experience in the policies and regulations sector at a professional organization. I am interested in understanding the framework, regulations, and policies necessary to ensure smooth operations of a non-profit organization to further expand my knowledge on community enterprise management. This experience will greatly assist my career goal in project management and social entrepreneurship and strengthen the current organizations and passion projects that I direct. Lastly, I want to work with other members who share the same values and passion to ensure Embark reflects the sustainability goals of the SFU community. I have participated in previous Embark programs and activities such as Food Rescue, Community Kitchen and the Social
Innovation Seed Fund. Plus, being involved in other community opportunities such as SFU cultural clubs, student unions and such allows me to confidently represent the diversity of students that Embark serves.
