Welcome Jamie, our new Design & Communications Manager

Dec 1, 2021 | Embark News, Team

Hey everyone! My name is Jamie Hill (she/they) and I’m thrilled to fill the role of Design and Communications Manager while Lisa Salomonsson takes leave this year.

As a communications professional in the nonprofit sector, I’m always searching for human narratives at the heart of complex problems, and believe that storytelling can help us imagine and advocate for a more just and equitable world.

Like many of you, my sustainability journey started at SFU! I’m an alumnus of the School of Communication. About half way through my degree I took a course on environmental communication that sparked something in meI had long felt anxious about climate change, and this is where I learned to emphasize community, solidarity and action in the face of the climate crisis. I went on to become a climate futures alumnus of SFU Semester in Dialogue, a blog writer here at Embark Sustainability, and a climate-savvy comms professional as I entered the working world. This community helped me discover my passion for climate action, and I’m so thrilled to be here supporting other students in their journeys.

Outside of work you’ll find me watching copious amounts of television and hanging out with my lovebird. I recently moved to the ancestral lands of the Qayqayt First Nation, colonially known as New Westminster, which lands me almost perfectly in between all three campuses—all the better to visit with everyone!

See you online and in-person soon ☺️
