Topics That Go Beyond Us

About Beyond Us

As young adults living in Metro Vancouver, there are endless topics and areas of interest that Hussein and Stephanie, the hosts of Beyond Us, could explore between the two of them. But what nuances and lenses would we miss if we didn’t move beyond what we already know? What MORE could we learn if we sat, listened and digested the words of those with expertise and lived experience different from our own?

Beyond Us aims to create an opportunity for people to explore various social, political, economic and personal topics through the lens of Black, Indigenous and People of Colour.

Why is this necessary?

Moving beyond us is key in unlearning biases, addressing unconscious stereotypes and seeing the world through different lenses. Through this platform, we aim to invite community members who can share these views, all while tackling rarely discussed topics and asking questions we don’t usually get the opportunity to ask – or answer. Learning through the lens of those with specific lived experience allows for intimate understandings of problems and their impact on human lives. To us, moving Beyond Us means committing to this cycle of listening, learning, and unlearning. All while amplifying the work, and the knowledge of our BIPOC community.
