The Neighbour Hub

The Neighbour Hub is a physical structure to be placed in community parks to be used in cases of natural disaster. It has a bike docking stations and a hand crank so neighbours can pedal to generate electricity and charge their cell phones during an earthquake. It also has a catchment area to collect rainwater to be stored in an underground cistern which has the capacity to provide one gallon of water per day for 473 people during a disaster. The Neighbour Hub also includes a one-way radio powered by the structure’s three solar panels and kinetic energy to address potential loss of cell service and internet. It also has a community bulletin board which enables neighbours and the City of Vancouver to share information.
