Date & Time

Wed, July 30, 2025
5:30 PM – 9:30 PM PDT

Location

SUB Community Kitchen, room #2125 – SFU Burnaby

We are excited to be joined by Canadian-Philippine Solidarity for Human Rights (CPSHR) for a community kitchen focused on food justice and sovereignty in the Philippines! Our facilitator Freddi will be sharing beloved Filipino recipes while discussing the realities of Filipino peasants—millions of whom work in agriculture while facing systemic barriers to land access, liveable wages, and food security. Peasants are class of people in the Philippines that work on the land of a feudal landlord—not to be confused with its derogatory connotation in Western contexts.

Come for the food and stay to learn about what it means to be a peasant in the Philippines and how we can stand in solidarity with Filipino peasant resistance movements 🇵🇭✊

We’ll be making:

  • Sinigang (Tamarind-based soup)
  • Halo Halo (Shaved ice dessert)

Each recipe will be made vegan. Please be mindful of any dietary restrictions.
