Join us for February’s Community Kitchen at the Women’s Centre\, March19th. We’re welcoming this month’s facilitator\, Denise Somuah-Asamoah. \nDenise Somuah-Asamoah is a Biomedical Physiology undergraduate student from Ghana who has been studying at SFU since the Fall of 2017. She has been involved in life here at SFU through volunteering in various clubs such as the Students of Caribbean and African Ancestry and the African Students Association. She has been a foodie for as long as she can remember and began to explore the world of vegetarianism and veganism when she moved to Canada in 2015. She loves to experiment in the kitchen and try new things like “veganizing” traditional Ghanaian dishes. She is also a proud banana bread snob. \nYou’re invited to a celebration of flavours at SFSS Women’s Centre and cook delicious Ghanaian food – you don’t want to miss this! \nACKNOWLEDGEMENT \nThis event is being hosted on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. Join us for the second Community Kitchen for the fall semester\, at the Women’s Centre October 30th. Read below on this month’s facilitator\, Miraf Haile. \nA little bit about myself. I was born and raised in Addis Ababa\, Ethiopia. My parents are both from there. Because my family size is large\, I spent half the time at my grandmother’s\, which is where I learned how to cook. I came to Canada in December 2014 to study and cooking together with music is my way of staying connected to my home country and my Grandma. \nAcknowledgments \nThis event is being hosted on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. Join us for the last Community Kitchen at the Women’s Centre July 25th\, before they move into the new SUB building. Read below on this month’s facilitator.\n\nPaola Quiros\, SFSS Women’s Centre Coordinator\, will bring us into a new exploration of Latin American flavours. Aside from being the head of the SFSS Women’s Centre\, Paola has been cooking since an early age\, and at one moment she considered becoming a chef. She celebrates life and the Doña’s (matriarchs) who have taught her unforgettable and tasty recipes. While Latin America is a vast\, culture-rich land\, and it would be impossible to finish this journey in one session\, but Paola will make sure to pique your curiosity about Latin American cuisine when exploring the importance of ingredients and flavours in traditional dishes of Latinx people.\n\nRSPV here \n\n\n\nAcknowledgments\nThis event is being hosted on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples.
