At this event we will be talking about how to shift the narrative of climate doom to climate hope. We will be using words\, literature and poetry to challenge negative perspectives on climate change and find positive ideas of hope and resilience. \nAt this workshop\, you’ll: \n\nLearn how to articulate your feelings into poetry\nHear reasons to be hopeful for our climate futures\nReclaim writing as a tool for art (and not just for assignments!)\nCollage and create with fellow creatives\n\nPeople at any level and experience of writing and collaging are welcome! \nThis event is in collaboration with Embark Sustainability and the Student Learning Commons. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Land Acknowledgement\nThis event takes place on the unceded homelands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam)\, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish)\, səlil̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh)\, and kʷikʷəƛw̓əm (Kwikwetlem) Nations.\n \n \n \n \n \n About the facilitator\nJulia Lane (she/her) \nJulia Lane is deeply passionate about students reclaiming writing as a tool for their self-expression. She works at the Student Learning Commons to support with writing\, language and learning skills that can help with academic success\, whatever that may look like to you! \n  \n \n \n \n \n \n Event Accessibility\nEmbark Sustainability events are free and open to Embark Sustainability members which includes Simon Fraser University undergraduate and graduate students\, as well as Embark Sustainability Associate Members. \nThis event will be held indoors at the Embark Studio\, room #1310 of the Student Union Building (SUB)\, SFU Burnaby. The Embark Studio: \n\nis wheelchair accessible\nwelcomes all gender identities and expressions\nis a tree nut and peanut-free zone\nis a scent-free zone\nis located near wheelchair accessible and gender-neutral restrooms\nprovides access to a quiet space for personal meditation\, reflection\, or prayers\n\nOther accessibility notes include: \n\nAs we’ll be addressing sensitive topics\, it’s important that our attendees are able to address their needs in the moment. Attendees are free to opt in and opt out of activities as suits their needs throughout the event\, including exiting and re-entering the event space.\nWe cannot provide ASL interpretation for this event\, however\, we can provide facilitator’s notes upon request.\n\nWe aim to make our events accessible to as many of our community members as possible.
