Living in a dorm\, apartment\, or other small urban space doesn’t mean you can’t grow healthy and flavour-packed food right at home.  \nGrowing at home is not only easy but affordable\, reduces food waste\, and brings fresh flavour to everyday cooking. Having accessible ways to grow and prepare nutrient-rich food is especially important as we face a climate crisis that continues to impact our food systems. So let’s ditch those expensive\, store-bought herbs that always seem to spoil overnight and learn a few simple tricks for growing long-lasting\, re-harvestable herbs instead!  \nGet ready to: \n\nExplore how herbs and spices make experimenting with flavour easy and accessible\nMake your own herb salts and lemon balm tea packets\nPot chives that you can take home and continue growing\nLeave with the knowledge and skills to start growing at home\, on your own\n\nWhether you’re interested in gardening\, cooking\, saving money on groceries\, reducing food waste\, adding more flavour to your meals\, or all of the above\, this workshop is designed to make growing at home accessible and practical for everyone\, regardless of gardening experience. With a focus on teaching children and youth how to grow food\, care for garden beds\, and create habitats that support local wildlife\, Pablo brings ecological learning to life. Since 2015\, he has served as the Garden Manager for Embark Sustainability\, where he leads hands-on gardening programs for students at Simon Fraser University\, grows fresh produce for Embark’s community kitchen\, and oversees a range of community-driven initiatives. Passionate about sharing his expertise\, Pablo finds joy in helping others take their first steps into the world of gardening. \n\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Marie Haddad (she/her)\n				\n \nMeet Marie\nMarie is an SFU graduate student and Coptic Egyptian who serves as the Director of Engagement at Embark Sustainability Society\, where she develops and leads inclusive\, community-focused initiatives. Before taking on this role\, she spent five years as a student organizer dedicated to advancing equitable and sustainable education\, uplifting marginalized communities\, and championing intersectionality\, anti-oppression\, and anti-racism. As the inaugural VP of Equity and Sustainability at the SFSS and a former SOCA Executive\, Marie helped drive landmark joint campaigns such as the creation of the Black Student Center\, 15 Black Faculty Cluster Hiring initiative and SFU’s multi-million-dollar fossil fuel divestment campaign. She also led B.C.’s first unanimously passed policy on Palestinian Liberation and BDS at the SFSS\, which was later adopted as a bylaw.  \nIn her Master’s research in Communication Research for Social Change\, Marie is committed to documenting and preserving the histories\, stories\, and organizing legacies of marginalized communities at SFU\, ensuring their contributions are remembered and accessible to future generations. She remains deeply committed to building strong communities and fostering transformative change. \n\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Event Accessibility\nEmbark Sustainability events are free and open to Embark members which includes Simon Fraser University undergraduate and graduate students\, as well as Embark Associate Members. \nThis event will be held indoors at the Embark Studio\, room #1310 of the SUB Student Union Building (SUB)\, SFU Burnaby.
