DESCRIPTION:This SFU Sexual Assault Awareness Month\, join Embark Sustainability\, the SFU Sexual Violence Support & Prevention Office\, and the SFSS Women’s Centre for a night of caring conversation\, recipe sharing\, and exploring how to contribute to a safer campus community. You’ll get to: \n\n👯 Meet new people\n🧑‍🍳 Brainstorm and share recipes\n💬 Chat community care\, awareness\, and action\n😋 Share and enjoy a delish meal\n\nRSVP ASAP to secure your spot. Members of all gender identities and expressions are welcome! \nACKNOWLEDGMENTS \nThis event takes place on the unceded homelands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam)\, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish)\, səlil̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh)\, and kʷikʷəƛw̓əm (Kwikwetlem) Nations. \nABOUT THE FACILITATOR \nPaola Quirós-Cruz is one of the Educators at the Sexual Violence Support & Prevention Office. She will bring us into a new exploration of Latin American flavours while co-creating recipes for change to ignite caring communities. Paola has been cooking since an early age\, and at one moment she considered becoming a chef. She celebrates life and the Doña’s (matriarchs) who have taught her unforgettable and tasty recipes. While Latin America is a vast\, culture-rich land\, and it would be impossible to finish this journey in one session\, Paola will make sure to open your curiosity about Latin American cuisine and invite you to explore the importance of ingredients and flavours in traditional dishes of Latinx people. \nEVENT ACCESSIBILITY \nEmbark Sustainability events are free and open to Embark members which includes Simon Fraser University undergraduate and graduate students\, as well as Embark Associate Members. \nThis event will be held indoors at the SUB Community Kitchen\, room #2125 of the Student Union Building (SUB)\, SFU Burnaby. Accessibility details include: \n\nAs we’ll be addressing sensitive topics\, it’s important that our attendees are able to address their needs in the moment. Attendees are free to opt in and opt out of activities as suits their needs throughout the event\, including exiting and re-entering the event space.\nUnfortunately\, some appliances and counter areas of this room are not accessible when using a wheelchair or other mobility aids. The dining/lounge area is accessible when using a wheelchair or other mobility aids.\nWe aim to host a scent-free space. Please refrain from wearing scented products in attendance of this event.\nUnfortunately\, we cannot provide ASL interpretation at this time. SUMMARY:Sustainability Career Night: Voicing Movements
DESCRIPTION:This event will showcase the ways professional communicators can reframe and re-story our understandings of climate justice and climate change. Learn how storytelling can advance sustainability\, equity\, and well-being in our communities\, all while getting a taste of the career opportunities that exist at the intersections of creativity\, communications and climate! \nThis event will consist of short presentations by a panel of sustainability leaders. Each speaker will discuss their journey to reach their current role\, along with barriers they overcame along the way. Speakers will also provide recommendations for participants who are looking to start their careers in climate communication. After the presentations\, each speaker will be in a Q&A breakout room where participants will have the opportunity to engage with them and ask questions. Students will have the opportunity to visit two facilitated breakout rooms during the evening. Finally\, the speakers will engage in a panel discussion to finish up the evening. \nRSVP required! \nSustainability Career Night is an opportunity for students from SFU\, UBC\, and other post-secondary students to learn from professionals championing sustainability in various fields. \nLAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT \nThis event is being put together and coordinated by organizations that work on the occupied\, traditional\, ancestral and unceded lands of the Tsleil-Waututh\, Musqueam\, Skwxwú7mesh\, Kwikwetlem\, Kwantlen\, Matsqui\, Katzie\, Semiahmoo\, Qayqayt\, and Tsawwassen nations.
