SUMMARY:Embark's Virtual Community Kitchen: An evening of Mango-nificense
DESCRIPTION:Come together virtually to cook-a-long and enjoy a vegetarian or plant-based meal\, while connecting with other SFU students. \nCommunity Kitchens are a low-barrier gathering space where SFU students come together to cook-a-long and share stories through food. \nFEBRUARY’S FACILITATORS \nJoin us for our Virtual Community Kitchen over Zoom\, February 11th. We’re welcoming this month’s facilitator\, Lofty! \nLofty : I’m an international student from Guinea studying political science at Simon Fraser University. After living here for a few years now\, one of the many things I appreciate about Vancouver is its culinary diversity. Like many people\, I love eating; there is nothing better than knowing you can find a little bit of everything from everywhere here. In Africa\, We pride ourselves in the tastefulness of our organic fruits and vegetables. If there is one fruit that we have in abundance in Guinée\, it is mango\, especially found during the monsoon seasons. Since Guinean cuisine is all about stews\, a dish incorporating mango was bound to happen. The dish I’m going to share with you guys is Mango Stew. \nWhile we have moved this program online\, we still want to make this space as low-barrier as possible. In partnership with the SFSS’s Women’s Centre\, we will be offering support for groceries for Community Kitchen! \nPlease email Melisa Tang Choy\, Embark’s Programs Manager\, at programs@embarksustainability.org\, by Tuesday February 9th at 12pm. We will be asking for your contact information and to fill out a Participant Data Storage Agreement. \nWhen are we sending the recipes out?\nWe will be sending out the recipes one week in advance so you have time to get the ingredients. We will also be attaching the recipe with each reminder. \n\nACKNOWLEDGEMENT \nWe acknowledge that Embark Sustainability’s work takes place on the unceded homelands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam)\, Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish)\, səlil̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh)\, kʷikʷəƛw̓əm (Kwikwetlem)\, Katzie\, Semiahmoo\, Qayqayt\, Stó:lō\, and Tsawwassen Nations. \nACCESSIBILITY \nEmbark events are free and open to Embark members which includes Simon Fraser University undergraduate and graduate students\, as well as Embark Associate Members. If you require an accessibility-related measure please contact Melisa at programs@embarksustainability.org by Friday\, February 5th. \nIf you have any questions about this event\, please contact Melisa Tang Choy\, Embark’s Programs Manager at programs@embarksustainability.org.

Hear about fellow students who are working on climate action and climate justice on campus\, and join them for an “Ask Me Anything” Instagram Q/A Takeover. \nEmbark’s Climate Action team is inviting fellow students to take over Embark’s Instagram for one day and explore different ways in which individuals are tackling climate change with an intersectional and interdisciplinary lens. \nFebruary 12th\, 2021 with Iulia Zgreabăn\nTopic: Student climate activism at SFU and pivoting during the pandemic \nIulia Zgreabăn is a fourth-year Political Science Honours student at Simon Fraser University\, concentrating in Diversity & Migration.
