SUMMARY:October Community Kitchen: Recipes from Addis Ababa\, Ethiopia
DESCRIPTION:Come together to cook and enjoy a four-course vegetarian or plant-based meal\, while connecting with other SFU students.\nAbout this Event\nCommunity Kitchens are a low-barrier gathering space where SFU students come together to cook and enjoy a four-course vegetarian or plant-based meal over a three-hour period. Join us for the second Community Kitchen for the fall semester\, at the Women’s Centre October 30th. Read below on this month’s facilitator\, Miraf Haile. \nA little bit about myself. I was born and raised in Addis Ababa\, Ethiopia. My parents are both from there. Because my family size is large\, I spent half the time at my grandmother’s\, which is where I learned how to cook. I came to Canada in December 2014 to study and cooking together with music is my way of staying connected to my home country and my Grandma. \nAcknowledgments \nThis event is being hosted on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. In particular\, this includes the land of the Tsleil-Waututh\, Musqueam\, Skwxwú7mesh\, and Kwikwetlem nations where we work\, live\, and play. \nAccessibility \nThe Women’s Centre has opened up their lounge (TC 3013) to all genders for this Community Kitchen. The Women’s Centre is wheelchair accessible. \nThis event is a collaboration between Embark and the SFSS Women’s Centre. Embark events are free and open to Embark members which includes Simon Fraser University undergraduate and graduate students\, as well as Embark Associate Members.
