Join us with Ren from Distro Disco in this workshop where we will explore mutual aid as a practice of care\, resistance\, and collective survival—both within and beyond monetary exchange. Through discussion and hands-on collaboration\, participants will examine how mutual aid networks sustain marginalized communities in the face of systemic inequities and the climate crisis.  \nTogether\, we’ll: \n\nLearn the foundations of mutual aid: what it is\, what it isn’t\, and how it differs from charity or institutional aid.\nExplore the connections between mutual aid and climate equity\, considering how community-based redistribution and solidarity work build resilience amid environmental and social crises.\nPut together “distro” (distribution) packages for community care.\n\nLet’s connect\, imagine\, and practice the kinds of care that can carry us and our communities through crisis and change! \n  \nAGENDA \n\nWelcome & Grounding\nPresentation: What is Mutual Aid?\nGroup Activity: Distro Bag Assembly\nReflection & Discussion\nClosing & Clean-Up\n\n  \n \n \n \n \n \n Land ACKNOWLEDGEMENT\nThis event takes place on the unceded homelands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam)\, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish)\, səlil̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh)\, and kʷikʷəƛw̓əm (Kwikwetlem) Nations. \n \n \n \n \n \n ABOUT THE FACILITATORS\nRen (they/themRen is a Chinese diasporic queer and trans settler living on the unceded land of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish)\, səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh)\, and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) nations. Climate change is not an isolated environmental issue\, but a justice issue rooted in dispossession\, erasure\, and unequal responsibility.  \nJoin us for an afternoon of learning\, reflection\, and shared conversation as we gather for a screening of Our Grandmother the Inlet (2023) by filmmaker Kai George\, followed by a facilitated discussion and food. Together\, we will explore:  \n\nIndigenous voices in the climate crisis: youth leadership\, cultural resurgence\, and art as resistance in the face of ongoing colonization.\nRelationality in practice: understanding land and water as living relations\, not resources.\nWhat climate equity requires: confronting colonial histories and building collective responsibility toward reconciliation and climate justice\n\nLet’s connect storytelling\, film\, and dialogue to the broader struggle for climate equity! \n \n \n \n \n \n Land Acknowledgement\nEmbark Sustainability’s work takes place across the unceded homelands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam)\, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish)\, səlil̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh)\, kʷikʷəƛw̓əm (Kwikwetlem)\, q̓íc̓əy̓ (Katzie)\, Qayqayt\, Kwantlen\, Semiahmoo\, and Tsawwassen Nations.
