SUMMARY:Session 1: The State of the Climate - Climate Literacy 101: On a Path to Climate Success
DESCRIPTION:Session 1: The State of the Climate \nWednesday\, May 27th \n12pm-1pm \nDr. Kirsten Zickfeld will speak about the climate science that underpins the requirement for net zero carbon dioxide emissions to stabilize Earth’s climate. She will illustrate the atmospheric greenhouse effect\, the long permanence of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and the lag in the warming of the ocean\, which conspire to keep global mean temperature elevated even if human-made carbon dioxide emissions are eliminated. \n  \n\n\n\n\nJoin us for a Virtual Lunch & Learn Series\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nAre you an SFU student\, faculty member\, or staff climate champion committed to growing your understanding of climate science and pathways for change? \nClimate Literacy 101 is an opportunity to learn from and engage with leading climate science and policy experts at Simon Fraser University. We are grateful to have Dr. Kirsten Zickfeld and Dr. Mark Jaccard presenting on the state of the climate and how citizens can contribute to climate success\, and participating in a Q&A session over Zoom. The event series\, co-hosted by the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions and Embark\, will close with information about ongoing campus climate action initiatives and ways to get involved at SFU.

SUMMARY:Student Climate Engagement Session
DESCRIPTION:Embark\, SFU350\, and ChangeSFU (officially known as the Climate Coalition) are organizing a climate emergency engagement session and we thought you may be interested in attending! \nAs a contribution to the larger climate emergency engagement process taking place at SFU\, the Climate Coalition is organizing a session that is specifically for students as we want to make sure there is space for our voices to be heard\, our ideas to be shared\, and connections to be made through this pressing crisis that affects us all! Before a climate emergency is declared\, we want to ensure that all students have the opportunity to share their perspective\, which is why\, through this event\, we want to create a safe space for any SFU student – regardless of their involvement in climate action – to share their thoughts\, concerns\, and proposals for how SFU can proceed as a leader in the fight against climate change. \nOur session will focus on why climate action matters to students and how it affects us both inside and outside the classroom. The session will be held on Monday\, February 3rd from 12:30 – 2:30 pm on the Burnaby Campus (location TBD) and light refreshments will be provided. RSVP is required as space is limited. Please RSVP here https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FFNFJN6. \nBy participating in this engagement session\, you will be providing valuable student input for the climate emergency declaration process. \nWe hope to see you there!
