In this session\, we will unlock the power of upcycling and learn how to transform old t-shirts into stylish\, reusable tote bags. This is a fun and practical way to fight back against the waste of fast fashion while giving new life to materials that would otherwise end up in the landfill. Let’s get crafty\, make a statement\, and create something beautiful while minimizing our ecological footprint! Feel free to bring materials from home that you’d like to upycle. \n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Land Acknowledgement\nThis event takes place on the unceded homelands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam)\, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish)\, səlil̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh)\, and kʷikʷəƛw̓əm (Kwikwetlem) Nations.\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				ABOUT THE FACILITATORS\nkAt (he/they/she)kAt is an amateur sewist with a passion for sustainable fashion. He enjoys working on a variety of design projects – from creating bags and clothing to crafting accessories. Recently\, upcycling has become a central focus of their work – embracing a more conscientious approach to fashion consumption. kAt is excited to share what she’s learned and connect with others who are also passionate about sustainability. \n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Event Accessibility\nEmbark Sustainability events are free and open to Embark Sustainability members which includes Simon Fraser University undergraduate and graduate students\, as well as Embark Sustainability Associate Members. \nThis event will be held indoors at the Embark Studio\, room #1310 of the Student Union Building (SUB)\, SFU Burnaby. The Embark Studio is: \n\nWheelchair accessible\nLocated near wheelchair accessible and gender-neutral restrooms\nWelcomes all gender identities and expressions\nA tree nut and peanut-free zone\nA scent-free zone\nProvides access to a quiet space for personal meditation\, reflection\, or prayers\n\nOther accessibility details include: \n\nSewing machines will be used throughout the event. Ear plugs will be available for especially those sensitive to loud\, prolonged noise. \nAs an attendee\, you are free to opt-in and opt-out of activities as suit your needs throughout the event\, including exiting and re-entering the event space.\nUnfortunately\, we cannot provide ASL interpretation at this time.\n\nWe aim to make our events accessible to as many of our community members as possible.
