Our facilitator Freddi will be sharing beloved Filipino recipes while discussing the realities of Filipino peasants—millions of whom work in agriculture while facing systemic barriers to land access\, liveable wages\, and food security. Peasants are class of people in the Philippines that work on the land of a feudal landlord—not to be confused with its derogatory connotation in Western contexts.  \nCome for the food and stay to learn about what it means to be a peasant in the Philippines and how we can stand in solidarity with Filipino peasant resistance movements 🇵🇭✊   \nWe’ll be making: \n\nSinigang (Tamarind-based soup)\nHalo Halo (Shaved ice dessert)\n\nEach recipe will be made vegan. Please be mindful of any dietary restrictions.  \nAGENDA \n\nIntroductions and Housekeeping \nCooking and Activities \nEating and Discussion \nWrap-up and Clean-up\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Land Acknowledgement\nThis event takes place on the unceded homelands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam)\, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish)\, səlil̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh)\, and kʷikʷəƛw̓əm (Kwikwetlem) Nations.\n \n \n \n \n \n ABOUT THE FACILITATORS\nFreddi (He/him)Freddi recently graduated from UBC\, where he spent three years doing food rescue and food justice work for UBC Sprouts.
