DESCRIPTION:Join us for a once-in-a-decade celebration as our Burnaby Learning Garden marks its remarkable 10th anniversary since opening its learning landscape in 2013! \nTake a break and step into vibrant greenery with fresh soil and exquisite fragrances as we take you on a journey through the Garden’s past\, present\, and future. Get ready to be transported to a world of fond memories and cherished moments as we share stories of the Garden’s impact and history. \nBut that’s not all! We invite you to join us in building the Garden’s future as we look ahead to the next decade and beyond. Experience the magic of the Burnaby Learning Garden like never before and hear from those who have nurtured deep relationships with the plants\, soil\, and people of the Garden. This is an afternoon you won’t want to miss! \nThroughout this celebration you can expect: \n🥗 Food and beverages + fresh produce from the gardens! \n🌱 Live gardening and crafty activities for all ages \n🎁 Giveaways \n💚 Live performances\, and personal stories – WOW! \n  \nLAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT \nThis event will take place on the unceded homelands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam)\, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish)\, səlil̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh)\, and kʷikʷəƛw̓əm (Kwikwetlem) Nations. These lands that were never surrendered\, transferred or relinquished have provided Embark Sustainability an opportunity to nourish our community through its wind\, rain\, sun and soil. As settlers it is our responsibility to ensure decolonization is centred in all we offer\, and we look forward to exploring those efforts with you throughout this event as we reflect on the history of these gardens\, as well as the history of this sovereign Indigenous territory. \n  \nACCESSIBILITY \nThis Embark Sustainability event is open to all our community members\, SFU students and staff\, plot renters\, the UniverCity community\, and Embark Sustainability members\, past and present. \nThis event will be held outdoors in Embark Sustainability’s Burnaby Learning Garden\, located on the south side of TASC1. \nAccessibility details include: \n\nDue to terrain\, this space is not always accessible using a wheelchair or mobility aids. Please contact programs@embarksustainability.org for more details.\nWe aim to host a scent-free space. Please refrain from wearing scented products in attendance of this event.\nUnfortunately\, we cannot provide ASL interpretation at this time. However\, we can provide written instructions and a copy of the facilitator’s script.\nSome light physical activity will take place at this event (gardening)\, but we can provide assistance from our volunteers!\nAs an attendee\, you are free to opt-in and opt-out of activities as suit your needs throughout the event\, including exiting and re-entering the event space.\n\nWe aim to make our events accessible to as many as possible. If we can take further action to make this event accessible to you\, or if you have any questions\, please contact us at programs@embarksustainability.org. \nMasks optional – this event engages outdoor spaces; activities are distant from each other so there will be opportunities for distancing. \n  \nCOMMUNITY AGREEMENT \nBy registering to attend this event or events\, you are agreeing to be respectful when listening to and communicating with others\, and be mindful of the space you are taking up amongst your peers. \nEmbark Sustainability does not tolerate violence or aggression against others on the basis of race\, ethnicity\, place of origin\, sexual orientation\, gender identity\, religious affiliation\, or ability.
