SUMMARY:Canadian Climate Impact
DESCRIPTION:From shipping our waste overseas\, to producing our goods in countries without living wages or just environmental laws\, Canada is a large contributor to global climate inequities. \nJoin us as we discuss climate inequities on a global scale and write to elected officials and corporations about what Canada can do better! \nWe will:🪞 Reflect on current events and personal connections through diasporic communities🌎 Discuss international climate issues and advocate for just solutions😎 Enjoy light snacks and refreshments \nLAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT \nThis event will take place on the unceded homelands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam)\, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish)\, səlil̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh)\, and kʷikʷəƛw̓əm (Kwikwetlem) Nations. Unceded means that this land was never surrendered\, transferred or relinquished in any way and\, as such\, the land remains sovereign Indigenous territory. \nIt is our intention to ground our session in Indigenous sovereignty over the lands and waters we call home\, and use this time together to unpack the colonial systems of power (including Canadian governance) that perpetuate the climate crisis. \nACCESSIBILITY \nEmbark Sustainability events are free and open to Embark members which includes Simon Fraser University undergraduate and graduate students\, as well as Embark Associate Members. \nThis event will be held indoors at the Embark Studio\, room #1310 of the Student Union Building (SUB)\, SFU Burnaby. The SUB is located south of Freedom Square between the Diamond Family Auditorium (DFA) and the Academic Quadrangle (AQ). \nThe Embark Studio is: \n\nwheelchair accessible\nwelcoming of all gender identities and expressions\na tree nut and peanut-free zone\na scent-free zone\nlocated near wheelchair accessible and gender-neutral restrooms\nproviding of access to a quiet space for personal meditation\, reflection\, or prayers.\n\nWe aim to make our events accessible to as many of our community members as possible.
