DESCRIPTION:Share your voice! Let’s gather in community to chat city politics\, contact local officials\, and explore how we can enact positive change in our communities. Join our 101-style letter writing session to get the full details on your newly elected municipal leaders and stand up for climate equity in your city. Light snacks and refreshments available 😎 \nLAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT \nThis event will take place on the unceded homelands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam)\, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish)\, səlil̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh)\, and kʷikʷəƛw̓əm (Kwikwetlem) Nations. Unceded means that this land was never surrendered\, transferred or relinquished in any way and\, as such\, the land remains sovereign Indigenous territory. \nIt is our intention to ground our letter writing in Indigenous sovereignty over the lands and waters we call home\, and use this time together to unpack the colonial systems of power (including Canadian governance) that perpetuate the climate crisis. \nACCESSIBILITY \nEmbark Sustainability events are free and open to Embark members which includes Simon Fraser University undergraduate and graduate students\, as well as Embark Associate Members. \nThis event will be held indoors at the Embark Studio\, room #1310 of the Student Union Building (SUB)\, SFU Burnaby. The SUB is located south of Freedom Square between the Diamond Family Auditorium (DFA) and the Academic Quadrangle (AQ). \nThe Embark Studio is: \n\nwheelchair accessible\nwelcoming of all gender identities and expressions\na tree nut and peanut-free zone\na scent-free zone\nlocated near wheelchair accessible and gender-neutral restrooms\nprovides access to a quiet space for personal meditation\, reflection\, or prayers.\n\nWe aim to make our events accessible to as many of our community members as possible. If we can take further action to make this event accessible to you\, or if you have any questions\, please contact us at programs@embarksustainability.org. \nCOMMUNITY AGREEMENT \nBy registering to attend this event or events\, you are agreeing to be respectful when listening to and communicating with others\, and be mindful of the space you are taking up amongst your peers. \nEmbark Sustainability does not tolerate violence or aggression against others on the basis of race\, ethnicity\, place of origin\, sexual orientation\, gender identity\, religious affiliation\, or ability.
