SUMMARY:Virtual Community Kitchen: Tu Causa Es Mi Causa\, a Spudtacular sign-off
DESCRIPTION:About this event\nCommunity Kitchens are a low-barrier gathering space where SFU students come together to cook-a-long and share stories through food. \nJUNE’S FACILITATORS \nJoin us for our Virtual Community Kitchen over Zoom\, June 1st. We’re welcoming this month’s facilitator\, Embark’s faboulus Programs Manager\, Melisa Tang Choy 邓梅英 ! \nMelisa Tang Choy 邓梅英 (she/her/hers) is the daughter of Chinese immigrants from Guangdong province\, born and raised in Lima\, Peru\, and now an immigrant settler on the ancestral and stolen territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam)\, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) nations. She grew up in her family’s chifa (Chinese-Peruvian restaurant)\, which has been running in the same spot since the late 1990’s\, so food and cooking have always had a special place in her heart. Peru is home to the biggest Chinese diaspora in Latin America. \nMelisa is passionate about people\, their stories and their histories\, place-making and accessibility. She’s fueled by bread-making and bread-sharing\, the water\, too much coffee and scary films (the scarier\, the better). \nWhile we have moved this program online\, we still want to make this space as low-barrier as possible. In partnership with the SFSS’s Women’s Centre\, we will be offering support for groceries for Community Kitchen! \nPlease email Melisa Tang Choy\, Embark’s Programs Manager\, at programs@embarksustainability.org\, by Tuesday\, May 25 th at 5 pm. We will be asking for your contact information and to fill out a Participant Data Storage Agreement. \nWhen are we sending the recipes out? \nWe will be sending out the recipes in advance so you have time to get the ingredients. We will also be attaching the recipe with each reminder. \nEmbark Sustainability’s work takes place on the unceded homelands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam)\, Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish)\, səlil̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh)\, kʷikʷəƛw̓əm (Kwikwetlem)\, Katzie\, Semiahmoo\, Qayqayt\, and Tsawwassen Nations. \nACCESSIBILITY \nEmbark events are free and open to Embark members which includes Simon Fraser University undergraduate and graduate students\, as well as Embark Associate Members. If you require an accessibility-related measure please contact Melisa at programs@embarksustainability.org . \nIf you have any questions about this event\, please contact Melisa Tang Choy\, Embark’s Programs Manager at programs@embarksustainability.org.
