TankTalks

What is a tank farm? Did you know that the tank farm at the base of Burnaby mountain may be expanded to include an additional 13 tanks?

Explore the safe and health implications of this tank farm expansion proposal with fellow SFU students, staff, faculty, administration, and community members at our first-ever TankTalks event. TankTalks, a dialogue-based town hall, is being collaboratively hosted by Embark Sustainability, Simon Fraser Public Interest Group (SFPIRG), SFU 350, Graduate Student Society, Force of Nature, World Literature Student Union, SFU Faculty Association, and BROKE.

Balancing community story-telling with practical, technical details, TankTalks attendees will have the opportunity to engage with:

  • Personal stories of community members actively working on the tank farm expansion issue and how they feel both enabled and disempowered to act;

  • A panel discussion with faculty, First Nations, student, and administration representatives, who will share their technical expertise on various aspects of the tank farm expansion, including fire safety, the hazards of dilbit, and campus safety procedures; and

  • Small group dialogue sessions with the panelists.

Please RSVP here!

Thank you to the SFU Faculty Association, SFPIRG, and Simon Fraser Student Society for generously sponsoring this event.
