My name is Pablo Vimos and I am an Ecologist with experience in urban organic agriculture, teaching children and youth to garden through hands-on experiences, protection of urban streams, leading volunteers and managing community projects.
Some of you may know me for my involvement in the UniverCity community for organizing and leading community events such as community clean-ups, flea market, plant rescues, senior harvest tea, Halloween events and multicultural dinner. In the last 3 years, I have worked closely with teachers and students at University Highlands Elementary to build the school vegetable garden and to transform school grounds into a space where nature can be experienced. In addition, I facilitated indoor and outdoor gardening activities for children of the SFU Childcare Centre (3-5 years), University Highland Elementary school (5-8 years), and SFU university students (18+ years). Activities included: seeding, transplanting, harvesting, weeding, composting, mulching, square foot gardening, vermiculture, assembly of cold frames and care of mason bees.
Since 2015, I am the Garden Coordinator of Embark. In addition to managing Embark's Learning Garden, I look after 11 garden beds to grow produce for the community kitchen as well as for the harvest box. Adding cold frames to the garden beds allowed to extend the gardening season and be able to supply fresh, local, organic vegetables for these programs throughout the year.
With the new location of Embark's Learning Garden, we are looking forward to an exciting growing season. I hope you will join us for some of Embark's gardening activities and look forward meeting you at the Learning Garden.
